NeoCov
“Just one mutation is enough for the virus to be able to infiltrate human cells, claim Chinese scientists."
NeoCov is a zoonotic virus. It means that it can be transmitted between humans and animals. Chinese scientists pointed out that NeoCov is related to the MERS Coronavirus (Middles East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus) is discovered in a South African bat family. Presently it is only spreading in animals, but “Just one mutation is enough for the virus to be able to infiltrate human cells, claim scientists."
Russian State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology Vector told that specialists are aware of the data. However, "at the moment, there are no discussions about the emergence of a new coronavirus that is ready to actively spread in the human population. The risks identified by Chinese experts are potential and require further study," the researchers said.
Is it a new virus?
NeoCoV is not a new coronavirus. It belongs to a distinctly different type of coronaviruses known as merbecovirus. It has many common characteristics with few flu viruses, but rarely seen. Though at present it does not affect the human beings, but there is a potential to spread among human beings.
Symptoms of New Variant
Experts say that if it spreads among human beings, NeoCov will show the same symptoms of SARS-COV-2. These symptoms include loss of taste, smell and appetite, high grade fever, runny nose, congestion with cough, muscular pain, body soreness and headache. No new signs are noted yet.
WHO and New Variant
The officials of WHO said, “Whether the virus found in the research will pose a concern for people will need more investigation". It also stated that it “collaborates closely” with the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) to “monitor and react to the danger of New Zoonotic Viruses.”
The WHO has thanked the researchers for sharing their research studies. “Animals, especially wild animals, are responsible for more than 75% of all new infectious illnesses in humans. Coronaviruses may infect a wide range of species, including bats, which have emerged as a natural reservoir for several of these viruses",the international organization said.
Should We Worry
We should not panic as this is not detected in humans. What we need to do it to conduct research and follow Covid-19 SOPs strictly. As a number of other viruses that can pose threats to human beings are not yet detected. As Omicorn is different from Delta Virus. The fatality rate of Omicorn is 91% less than the Delta Variant. NeoCov not worry about it.
